The LAUNCH youth after school program is an exciting initiative for specially selected and unique 6th and 7th graders from the SOAR program.  We focus on four areas with our students: Learning, Academics, Uniqueness, and Character building.

Our LAUNCH students are middle schoolers at Griffin Middle School and are navigating through the exciting adventures of adolescence.  We want them to have focus and drive to learn new and stimulating ideas and concepts – we want to be able to coach and mentor them to experience a wider world.

We emphasize academics, especially reading, math, and language arts.  In addition to working with them on daily homework, we help our LAUNCH student plan and schedule for projects and assignments through the quarter.  We hope to help them learn that with planning and scheduling, they will be able to make great choices with their time!

All of our LAUNCH students are unique.  In a world where young people are constantly bombarded with cookie-cutter images, we want our students to know that they are unique and that their uniqueness is a valuable and precious gift.  We want them to be able and equipped to stretch beyond their neighborhood and school and make positive and healthy choices as they learn and grow.

The character of our LAUNCH students is very important.  We want to help them grow to be strong and confident adults.  We are intentional about our encouragement of healthy behaviors and long –term plans.  Each of our LAUNCH students understands that we want to see them in college and will support them as they move toward that goal.

LAUNCH isn’t all about school work!  It is also social and fun!  We go on monthly outings (bowling, Tallahassee Museum, Mission San Luis, Wakulla Springs – just to name a few things we have in store) and want our students to grow in their relationships with one another and make good memories that will last a lifetime!
